Jacques Simard, holds a Canada Research Chair in Oncogenetics since 2001, is Professor in Molecular Medicine at Université Laval and is Deputy Director, Basic Research at CHU de Québec-Université Laval Research Centre.


Since 2001 he has been Director of the Interdisciplinary Health Research International Team on Breast Cancer Susceptibility (INHERIT BRCAs 2001-2008), and the CIHR Team in Familial Risks of Breast Cancer (2008-2014). He is currently the Lead (Bartha M. Knoppers Co-lead) of the international Génome Québec/Génome Canada/CIHR project entitled PERSPECTIVE (Personalised Risk Stratification for Prevention and Early Detection of Breast Cancer) including 23 co-applicants from Canada, the UK, the USA, The Netherlands and Germany.


The purpose is to develop risk stratification tools to increase early detection of breast cancer by extending the current mammography screening programs in a targeted manner, especially for younger women at high risk of the disease who are missed by the current standard age-based screening program.
